One year after the destruction of The House of White Feathers …
For one brief, glorious second, Benson was upside down above forty thousand people.
The backflip had become one of those things his management repeatedly begged him to stop doing and his fans had therefore come to expect at every major show, however, tonight, he had timed it perfectly …
He sprinted down the runway during the final bars of the bridge, planted both feet against the stage and threw himself backwards just as the drums began to build. The world turned over, the steel rafters appeared above him, then the crowd rushed back into view and his trainers struck the stage exactly as the chorus crashed in.
The reaction was immediate, deafening. Benson barely had time to grin before he was running again, microphone raised, flames erupting in controlled bursts along either side of the runway as tens of thousands of voices sang his own lyrics back at him.
'…Please! Stay! I want you, I need you, oh, God! Don't! Take! These beautiful things that I've got! …’
He had long ago learned that fame made almost everything ordinary eventually …
Luxury hotel suites became rooms. MTV Awards became stuff he had to store. He had learned to eat at midnight, sleep on planes and smile convincingly through introductions to people whose names evaporated almost as soon as he heard them.
Performing was different. That had never flattened out into routine. There were still moments, usually somewhere near the end of a show, when he would stop singing altogether and simply hold the microphone towards the audience, listening as thousands of strangers carried the song without him.
Tonight, standing at the end of the runway with sweat running from his hairline and his lungs burning from ninety minutes of movement, Benson lowered his microphone and let the stadium take the chorus.
For a few seconds he just stood there, smiling, absorbing the sound as it rolled towards him. Then the final song began and he laughed into the microphone.
“One more?”
The answer was so loud that he felt it physically beneath his ribs.
Twenty-five minutes later, immortality had worn off …
Benson came offstage drenched in sweat, one hand already reaching for the bottle of water somebody was pushing towards him as he entered the concrete corridors beneath the stadium.
Crew members moved around him in the familiar post-show chaos, carrying equipment, removing transmitters, talking into headsets and shouting changes to the next morning’s call sheet.
Somewhere above them, the crowd was still roaring, though several feet of concrete had reduced it to something resembling distant thunder.
Benson drank half the bottle without stopping, the towel around his shoulders already damp, and was halfway to his dressing room when his tour manager, Jerry, fell into step beside him.
“Another backflip, bro?”
Benson swallowed, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and glanced sideways, “They love it, man.”
Jerry tutted, “You nearly landed on a pyro.”
Benson nudged his tour manager with his elbow, “But I didn’t.”
They both stepped aside as a gaggle of dancers passed by, “One day I’m going to watch you kill yourself in front of forty thousand people,” Jerry huffed.
Benson offered Jerry a playful wink, “Make sure somebody gets it on camera.”
Jerry stared at him with the exhausted expression of a man who had considered murder more than once during the course of the tour. Benson grinned and kept walking.
This, too, was part of the strange rhythm of his life. Ten minutes earlier he had been thirty feet tall on stadium screens, running through controlled fire and blue laser beams while an entire crowd screamed his name. Now one of several assistants was following him down a service corridor asking whether he wanted scrambled or poached eggs for breakfast. A voice called after him that the meet-and-greet would begin in ten minutes. Benson lifted one hand in acknowledgement without turning around, reached his dressing room and pushed open the door.
To Benson’s surprise, there was a woman sitting inside …
For a moment Benson genuinely wondered whether exhaustion had caused him to enter the wrong room.
She was seated on the chair opposite his dressing table, one leg crossed neatly over the other knee, her hands resting in her lap as if this were a sudden business deal.
She looked somewhere in her mid-twenties, perhaps a little older, though there was something about her that made age strangely difficult to judge.
Her hair was a hazel brown, her lips a blood red, her skin remarkably flawless, and her face had the kind of severe, almost old-fashioned beauty that seemed out of place beneath the blunt fluorescent lighting of a stadium dressing room.
Benson met beautiful people constantly; models, actors, influencers, singers, people whose entire careers depended upon being photographed. This was different. There was something unnervingly composed about her, as though she belonged in an oil portrait rather than backstage at a concert.
The first word that entered his mind was ‘vampire’, and once it did, he couldn’t quite get rid of it.
He glanced back towards the corridor. One of his security team was stationed just outside, “She’s cleared,” the man said before Benson could ask, “Special visitor.”
That explained almost nothing. Benson looked back into the room and found the woman watching him with the faintest suggestion of a smile.
“Hello, Benson.”
Her voice was soft, unhurried, entirely devoid of the usual excitement that accompanied unexpected backstage guests.
Benson stepped inside and let the door close behind him, “Hello …”
She reached forward and offered her hand, “Charm.”
Benson threw his bottle of water into his other palm and then took the woman’s hand, sniggering as he said: “Charmed, I’m sure …” however, his attempt at being ‘charming’ fizzled out as soon as he noticed that her fingers were cold, not unpleasantly so, but cold enough to register.
Charm’s eyes moved briefly over him, taking in the glittery jumpsuit, the towel around his shoulders and the way his round bubble butt sat tight and contained within his outfit.
“You put on a good show,” she said, as her hand slid out of his.
Benson perched on the couch’s arm, “You watched?”
She smirked and tilted her head, “I watched.”
Benson pouted at his dressing room mirror and glanced at his reflection. He looked spent. His cheeks were flushed, damp curls stuck to his forehead, and there was a streak of beer across one shoulder that he had no memory of acquiring. Through the mirror, he looked at Charm, “So. You got an album you want me to sign, a selfie you wanna take …”
Charm folded one leg over the other as though settling in for an important appointment, allowing one, two, three seconds of total quiet to pass before saying:
“My master would like to meet you.”
Benson’s gaze dropped from the mirror to Charm quickly.
“Your who now?”
Another few seconds of quiet.
“My master,” Charm said.
Benson waited, but she offered nothing else. He turned further around on the couch arm, eyebrows raised, “That’s, uh, usually the sort of sentence people explain afterwards.”
Charm seemed faintly entertained by him. She reached into the pocket of her dress and retrieved a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, “He’s heard a great deal about you.”
“Oh, has he?” Benson asked, already grinning, “Good things, I hope.”
Charm selected a cigarette from the packet and placed it between her lips, “Interesting things …” Benson watched as she flicked the lighter beneath it, the small flame briefly illuminating her dark eyes with amber. She drew in slowly, entirely ignoring the fact that she was smoking inside his dressing room.
Benson glanced towards the smoke curling above her head, “I, uh, don’t think you can do that in here.”
Charm exhaled towards the ceiling as though the rule concerned somebody else, “My master works with people that interest him, people who fascinate him …”
Benson used his hand to flap the smoke away, “Oookay. And apparently I’ve made ‘your master’s list?”
Charm nodded just once, “You’re a wanted man, Benson.”
The fact she had made reference to the name of his tour made him laugh, “Okay,” Benson said, “You’ve officially got my attention.”
Charm smiled around the cigarette, “He would like to test you.”
Benson recapped the bottle and wiped some water from his chin, “Test me how?”
“Endurance.”
His expression sharpened with interest almost immediately, “Like what? Action man shit?”
“No.”
“Strength?”
“No.”
Benson winced, dare he say it … “Like, a test where I gotta use my brain?”
Charm regarded him through the rising smoke for a moment, “The opposite.”
Benson scratched the back of his head, “Then what?”
Charm took another drag from her cigarette, “Tickling your feet.”
Benson stared at her.
There was a beat of complete silence.
“Sorry?”
Charm tapped some ash onto the carpet, “Sensory endurance.”
For several seconds Benson continued looking at her, clearly waiting for the punchline. When none arrived, a disbelieving smile gradually spread across his face.
“You’re actually serious.”
“I’m actually serious,” Charm smiled.
Benson laughed and rubbed a hand over his mouth, “That is fucking ... Crazy.”
Charm said nothing.
“No, seriously,” he continued, his laughter softening into genuine fascination, “You came backstage after my show because some freak wants to find out how long he can tickle my feet before what? I lose my mind?”
Charm’s slender shoulders lifted, “That’s an inelegant description.”
Benson used the bottle of water to point at her, “But accurate?”
Charm’s quiet expression said the word ‘essentially’.
Benson stared at her for another moment before laughing again, though there was very little mockery in it now. If anything, Charm could see the idea taking root. The exhaustion that had been hanging over him only minutes earlier seemed to disappear beneath a sudden spark of curiosity.
“That might genuinely be the weirdest offer I’ve ever had.”
Knock knock.
Benson turned to the dressing room door, “Gimme five minutes …”
Charm seemed unfazed by the knocking, “So?” She ran the thumbnail of her thumb across the base of her cigarette and watched Benson patiently.
Benson shifted further onto the couch, now facing her properly, “So what actually happens? I turn up somewhere and he just … Goes for it? Gets my dogs for free? Who is this guy?”
Charm licked her lips slowly, “Curious young buck, aren’t you …”
Benson laughed again. The very strangeness of it seemed to be exciting him now. It was unlike the endless parade of backstage invitations, parties, appearances and carefully manufactured red carpets that filled most of his life. There was something raw about this. Absurd, yes. Potentially insane, certainly. But unique …
Charm tapped the cigarette again as more ash dropped to the carpet, “You’ve been chosen, Benson. It’s an honour, truly.”
She remained where she was, cigarette balanced between her fingers, and Benson was still smiling, but something colder had slipped beneath the conversation. Until that moment, the entire exchange had existed comfortably in the realm of the bizarre. An invitation. A challenge. Something he could joke about later. But the word ‘chosen’ made the air feel stiff.
Then New York entered his mind …
Everyone thought of New York eventually when the subject of organised tickling arose now. The House of White Feathers had made certain of that. For months their existence had dominated news reports, documentaries and conspiracy channels. Ticklegate had become a cultural event, a story so absurd in concept and horrifying in execution that almost everyone remembered where they had been when the footage from Times Square appeared.
Benson’s smile faded a little, “Hold up. This isn’t connected to that, is it?” He gave her a harder look, “What they showed in New York. The House of ... Whatever The Fuck.”
Something almost imperceptible shifted in Charm’s expression.
“This is an invitation,” she said simply, “Not a capture.”
Benson studied her carefully. A minute ago he had been genuinely considering it. That was the most ridiculous part. Not merely entertaining the conversation, but actually picturing himself doing it. He could already imagine the story afterwards, assuming there was an afterwards worth laughing about. Some insane underground endurance challenge with a stranger nobody had ever heard of. It appealed to precisely the part of him that enjoyed doing things simply because nobody else would.
Benson looked back at Charm, “See, this is where you lose me.”
Charm's expression remained calm.
“I’m not even joking, I was halfway there,” Benson continued, “Weird secret tickle endurance with some mysterious master? Fine. Fuck it. I’ve done stranger things,” he laughed and shook his head, “Actually, no, I absolutely haven’t, but it sounded exciting.”
Charm dropped her now dead cigarette into a half empty glass of champagne on the dressing table, “It still is …”
Benson shrugged, “Maybe. But I saw what happened that Christmas.”
Charm sighed softly, “So, you’re refusing …”
Benson puffed out his cheeks and looked towards the ceiling as though giving the matter one final, theatrical consideration, “Famous guys getting tickled by mysterious gangs isn’t exactly enjoying great PR at the minute.”
Charm stood.
Benson watched her, almost expecting another pitch, some final argument designed to drag him back towards yes. Instead she simply smoothed down her dress.
“Very well.”
Benson blinked, “That’s it?”
The ease with which she accepted his refusal irritated him more than any attempt at persuasion might have done, “Of course,” she crossed the room towards him and slipped one hand into her pocket. When she withdrew it, something small and red rested between two fingers …
A whistle, with a horned devil inscribed over its surface.
She held it out, allowing the glimmer in the metal to catch Benson’s eye.
“If you change your mind …” Charm moved in closely to Benson’s ear, her crimson lips close to his ear lobe, her whisper warm, “… Just blow …”
He laughed softly, an uncontrollable yet slight thrill growing beneath the glitter of his jumpsuit, “Sss, seriously?”
She whispered one final time, her breath travelling around his ear and down his neck, like some kind of spell, “That is, if you think you can handle it …”
A faint chill travelled over Benson’s skin - he found himself annoyed by the fact that he couldn’t decide whether it was apprehension or excitement. Charm was standing close now, close enough that he could smell something faintly floral on her skin. He knew the entire proposition was ridiculous, perhaps even dangerous, yet some stubborn part of him wanted to keep the conversation going simply because she interested him.
He took the whistle.
As soon as it was out of her hand, she left.
Out of the dressing room, where the door lingered half open.
Benson looked at the whistle and chuckled, shaking his head.
He carelessly placed it on the corner of his dressing room table and went to follow Charm, but when he stepped out into the corridor, he realised she had gone completely, even though she had only departed mere seconds before.
Another assistant with a clipboard arrived out of nowhere, “Benson! Finally! You got five to go over the Rolling Stone interview?”
Benson kept looking for Charm, although she had clearly disappeared, “Yeah, man, sure …”
As he left with his assistant, the whistle rolled from the corner of the dressing room table and landed gently in his rucksack.
1:17 am
The hours after Charm’s departure had become a blur of photographs, signatures, shouted goodbyes and the usual post-show logistics.
By the time he finally returned to the hotel, her bizarre proposition had been pushed to the back of his mind by exhaustion. He had barely spoken during the drive and had gone straight upstairs, longing only for a shower, a cold room and several uninterrupted hours of sleep.
He emptied his bag out over the surface of the bed whilst yawning hard, his wide mouth stretching open.
His wallet fell out first, then his headphones, two protein bars, a crumpled set list and a handful of backstage passes.
The red whistle rolled across the duvet and came to rest near his knee.
Benson stared at it.
“No fucking way.”
He picked it up and turned it slowly between his fingers.
The sensible explanation was obvious. He must have knocked it into the bag without noticing. That was all. Still, the sight of it brought Charm’s voice back with irritating clarity.
You’re a wanted man.
Benson rolled his eyes and placed the whistle on the bedside table.
He showered, brushed his teeth, pulled on a pair of briefs and climbed into bed, telling himself he had already wasted enough energy thinking about it.
His phone was full of clips from the show. The backflip had already made its way across social media, and Benson watched one particularly good angle twice before sending it to his tour manager with the message: now admit it looked sick.
For several minutes Benson scrolled without really reading anything. His attention kept wandering back towards the bedside table. The whistle sat beneath the lamp, catching a narrow stripe of yellow light.
Eventually he picked it up again.
He opened up google and typed in several searches:
Sexy bitch Charm black dress red whistle.
Red whistle endurance tickling.
Charm mysterious stranger offers endurance tickle challenge anyone else?
He tried combinations of the few details she had given him, then searched phrases connected with fetishes, kinks and finally the House of White Feathers. Predictably, that opened an enormous rabbit hole. There were archived news reports, conspiracy forums, supposed survivor accounts and entire communities still attempting to reconstruct who had been responsible for bringing the organisation down.
Most of it was nonsense.
Then Benson saw a discussion about another group, one rumoured to have helped destroy the cult. The name was never stated directly. People referred to symbols, rumours, sightings and stories from people who claimed to have encountered them. Benson nearly closed the page until one comment caught his attention.
If they choose you, they already know you won’t last.
He stared at the sentence for a long moment, then read it again.
A laugh escaped through his nose, “Oh do they?”
That was the problem: Charm’s proposition had found precisely the wrong part of his personality.
Benson had spent most of his adult life being told what he couldn’t do; he couldn’t get an audition for American Idol, he couldn’t launch his own career without that platform, he couldn’t get a global number one hit, he couldn’t sustain that tour schedule, couldn’t sing that high live, couldn’t perform his own stunts, couldn’t get into that shape in twelve weeks, couldn’t safely backflip on a arena runway surrounded by pyrotechnics …
He had discovered years ago that being told he would fail was one of the fastest ways to make him want to try.
Benson got out of bed and wandered towards the windows, the whistle still resting in his palm.
Washington stretched out below him in scattered lights, traffic moving through the streets in thin red and white streams. He imagined Charm somewhere out there, and if he was being completely truthful with himself, the prospect of seeing her again was not an insignificant part of the temptation.
He looked down at the whistle.
“Fuck it.”
Before he could reconsider, he lifted it to his lips and blew.
The sound was painfully loud in the quiet room. Benson lowered it immediately and stood there listening.
Nothing happened.
He waited ten seconds, then twenty.
No knock came at the door. No phone rang. No message appeared.
Eventually he crossed the room, opened the hotel door and looked along the corridor in both directions.
It was completely empty.
Benson closed the door and looked down at the whistle.
Slowly, embarrassment replaced anticipation.
“You absolute idiot.”
He tossed it onto the bedside table and climbed back into bed. Of course nothing had happened. What exactly had he expected? Charm to appear inside the wardrobe? A helicopter to land on the roof? Some hidden passage beneath the minibar to slide open?
The whole thing had probably been an elaborate joke and within twenty minutes …
… Benson was asleep.
The world came back in fragments …
First the voices …
Low, overlapping, muffled.
Whispers that felt like they were spoken just behind his ear, then further away, then circling.
Directions given in calm, measured tones. Murmurs of agreement. The soft scrape of shoes on concrete. Someone counting under their breath …
Then the lights.
Red. Green. Red again.
Traffic signals smeared across his vision like wet paint, bleeding into one another.
Headlights. Streetlamps. The slow, rhythmic pulse of something amber and distant.
Sound thickened.
A high, continuous ringing that seemed to live inside his skull. The sharp click of metal against metal. The long, purposeful drag of a strap being pulled tight. Another click. A lock engaging with a heavy, final thunk. Leather creaking. Buckles settling …
All of it - the voices, the lights, the mechanical noises - collapsed into a single, roaring blur, as if the night itself had been poured into his head and shaken.
Then, abruptly, it stopped.
Benson’s eyes flew open, one word leaving him in a single, breathless rush.
“—WHOA!—”
Somewhere in darkness …
His body reacted before his mind fully caught up.
He yanked hard against the restraints. Thick leather, belted cuffs locked around both wrists and around his elbows, forcing his toned arms wide and open across the padded rests of the chair. The more he pulled, the more the straps bit and held. His muscular legs were already fixed in place, ankles clamped inside a pair of heavy wooden stocks at the end of the chair, bare feet curling uselessly in the cool air.
He was wearing nothing but the white briefs he had gone to sleep in.
The memory of the whistle crashed back in a single, vivid flash - the cold metal against his lips, the sharp, ridiculous sound in the quiet hotel room, the silence that followed. And now this …
A disbelieving laugh burst out of him.
“Okay… this is fucking wild. This is actually fucking wild!”
He twisted harder, testing every point of contact. The chair didn’t give. He strained his neck, trying to bring his mouth close enough to the nearest cuff, teeth bared, but the angle was impossible, “Dream. Has to be a dream. Or that sexy vampire lady slipped me something. Because there is no way—”, a low, frustrated growl rose in his throat, half snarl, half breathless laugh.
—The door at the far end of the room opened with a soft, deliberate click.
Heels.
Slow, measured, click… click… click across the concrete floor.
Charm stepped into the low light exactly as she had been in the dressing room: same dark dress, same blood-red mouth, a fresh cigarette already burning between her fingers. The tip glowed as she drew on it, watching him struggle.
Benson’s eyes widened.
“Holy shit. You were real.”
She exhaled a thin stream of smoke and kept walking.
“You actually meant it,” he grinned, “Did you kidnap me? Is that what this is? You’re gonna tickle the fuck out of me now?”
He jerked his head left and right, searching the shadows for cameras, red recording lights, anything that might prove this was still some elaborate prank. Nothing. Just concrete, the low hum of a bright beam above, and the soft creak of leather every time he moved.
Charm stopped a few feet away. Her voice was the same unhurried murmur it had been backstage.
“You blew the whistle, Benson. Part of you wanted to try this. Part of you dared yourself.”
He strained against the straps again, muscles standing out in his arms and shoulders.
“Yeah? And, mnn, what do I get out of it? Anything? Or is this just—”
—A deeper voice answered from the doorway before she could speak.
“… You will receive a reward. I promise you that …”
A man stepped through the same door Charm had used. He was tall, composed, and wearing a plain white T-shirt with Benson’s own tour branding across the chest in bold black letters: Benson Boone, Wanted Man Tour.
He walked straight to the chair at a gradual pace, stopped beside Benson’s right hand, and gently closed his fingers around the restrained fist. Even locked in place, the handshake was deliberate, almost courteous.
“Welcome to the House of Horned Devils, Benson …” he said, voice calm and resonant …
“… My name is Maxwell.”
Benson’s gaze snapped to Charm.
“The master?”
Maxwell’s low chuckle rolled through the room like the warm smoke curling from Charm’s cigarette.
“Yes,” he said, almost fondly, “I am her Master. And she is my Handler,” he glanced at her with quiet pride, “Isn’t she just gorgeous?”
Charm did not blush. She simply blinked once, slow and composed, and took another long drag from her cigarette. The ember brightened, painting a brief amber crescent across her cheekbones.
Maxwell lifted two fingers in a small, polite gesture, “Would you?”
She turned without a word. The sharp click-click-click of her heels retreated across the concrete, fading behind her and leaving Benson and Maxwell alone in the dark room.
Maxwell wasted no time. He stepped closer, resting one hand lightly on the back of the chair just above Benson’s restrained wrist, close enough that Benson could feel the quiet heat of him.
“Here,” Maxwell explained, “time stops mattering. Not that you’ll need it. Soon you’ll be so deep inside what I’m going to do to you that an hour, two hours, three … They will all feel the same. One long, endless present tense. Your body will stop counting. Your mind will stop bargaining. There will only be sensation.”
He noticed the way Benson’s eyes kept sliding toward the shadows, searching the walls, the ceiling, the corners.
“This isn’t New York,” Maxwell continued, softer now, “This isn’t the Dome. This isn’t The Games. I am not that old man you watched on television at Christmas,” a faint, almost private smile, “I’m the reason those boys walked free. You can trust me.”
He leaned in just enough that his voice became something shared between only them.
“This is me being a fan of yours, Benson. A devoted one. I want to give you something no stage, no crowd, no award will ever match. Something you’ll never forget … And that, I guarantee you, you will want again. It may not feel that way in the beginning. It may feel like too much, like you can’t take another second. But by the end—” his thumb brushed once, almost absently, over the edge of the leather cuff, “—you will feel differently than you do right now. You will understand why some people spend their whole lives chasing this exact state.”
Maxwell’s eyes stayed on his, calm and intent.
“So tell me,” he said, the question quiet, intimate, and already heavy with promise, “Are you ticklish?”
Benson swallowed hard.
The words Maxwell had just spoken still hung in the air - overwhelming, electric, far more personal than anything he had expected. For a dangerous second he felt the full weight of them settle low in his stomach, a mix of intimidation and something sharper, hotter, that he refused to name. He forced the reaction down, steadied his breathing, and met Maxwell’s eyes as evenly as he could.
“Yessir.”
Maxwell smiled, “Hm,” then began to pace around the chair in a measured circle. One hand rose to smooth the dark stubble along his jaw as he considered the restrained young pop star in front of him, “Do you know where?” He asked quietly, “Any places on that sculpted body of yours that stand out? Anywhere that springs to mind?”
Benson glanced down at his own torso. He had always been ticklish - incredibly so - but he had never mapped the exact coordinates because he’d never let anyone try it for long enough, up until now. His eyes moved across the flat plane of his stomach, the dark circles of his nipples, the defined lines of his abs. He turned his head and sniffed once at the hollow of his right armpit, then curled his toes hard and lifted both shoulders in a small, helpless shrug.
“The usual suspects, I guess,” a short, breathless snigger escaped him, “Man … You’re gonna drive me crazy, aren’t you …”
Maxwell completed his circuit and came to a stop at Benson’s left side. His answer was kind, almost cheerful.
“Oh yes. I most likely will,” he raised both hands in front of him the way a surgeon might before beginning a delicate procedure, fingers slightly spread, palms open, “Can I?”
Benson’s entire body locked. The chair creaked under the sudden tension.
“Oh fuck, man, yeah,” he nodded quickly as his eyes glued to Maxwell’s hands, “Just do it.”
Maxwell’s voice dropped to a low warning.
“Take a breath, Benson.”
Benson obeyed, dragging air in through his mouth, filling his lungs deeply.
Maxwell’s hands descended slowly.
They settled first on the tight muscles around Benson’s navel, fingers digging in with firm, deliberate pressure - not quite tickling yet, more like a slow, invasive massage that mapped every ridge and hollow. Benson twisted sideways on instinct, a sharp giggle forcing its way out through his nose as his eyes squeezed shut.
“Okay, okay—”
—Maxwell increased the pressure and the speed in the same motion, fingers racing upward along the sensitive lines of Benson’s ribs in quick, merciless scribbles. Benson’s back arched hard off the chair, spine bowing, fists clenched tight above the cuffs.
“Okay, damn—”
Then Maxwell’s index fingers found his nipples.
The lightest circle of fingernail against the sensitive peaks was enough.
“Fuck, oh SHIT—”
Benson’s body slammed back down into the chair so hard the whole frame wobbled. Before he could recover, Maxwell’s hands slid higher, fingers plunging deep into the soft, dark hair of both armpits. He scribbled without pause, scratching and digging, burying himself in the most vulnerable hollows.
Benson’s eyes flew wide. A raw, broken sound - half grunt, half wild laugh - ripped from his throat, “—GRUHNN!—”, he lunged forward as far as the restraints would allow and sank his teeth into the solid muscle of Maxwell’s forearm.
Maxwell only grinned. He had taken worse. Almost a year earlier Kit Connor had managed to break his wrist.
When Maxwell finally stepped back, Benson was still shaking with leftover giggles, chest heaving, fists unclenching. He glared up at the older man through his curls of hair, a breathless, almost feral grin stretching across his face.
“Yeah,” he managed, voice rough, “I’m pretty bad,” he licked his lips, “this ‘reward’ better be worth it …”
Benson’s teeth marks still stood out clearly against the skin of Maxwell’s forearm - neat, crescent-shaped impressions that had not yet begun to fade. Maxwell barely seemed to notice them. His attention had already shifted lower.
He looked at Benson’s feet.
That single glance was all it took. Benson’s toes clenched hard, curling so tightly the toe knuckles blanched white. Both big toes twisted inward until they pressed against each other, a desperate, instinctive attempt to protect every sensitive surface. He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The look on his face said everything.
Maxwell watched the reaction with quiet interest, then brought his right hand to his mouth and slowly sucked the tip of his index finger. When he lowered it again, he placed the damp pad gently against the very centre of Benson’s left sole.
One stroke. Soft. Almost lazy.
Benson’s legs jerked towards his stomach with violent force.
The wooden stocks rattled sharply against their bolts as his size tens tried and failed to escape the contact. Benson’s tongue hooked over his upper row of teeth as he leapt forwards and looked at Maxwell, bushy eyebrows raised.
“Come on, man.”
Maxwell straightened and clapped his palms together once, clean and decisive.
“I have all the information I need.”
He stepped back just as the door opened again.
Charm returned in the same cool and casual rhythm of clicking heels, the cigarette gone. In her hand she carried a small white remote, no larger than the kind used to control a television. She placed it in Maxwell’s open palm without a word and then left the room, closing the door behind her - an act that told Benson he might never see her again …
Maxwell turned the remote once between his fingers, then looked down at Benson.
“… Remember this moment, Benson. The moment you can still breathe freely …
… The moment you can still string a full sentence together. The moment a clear thought can still form in your head without being torn apart by sensation …
… Remember the exact feeling of your body right now - the weight of the straps, the cool air on your skin, the way your heart is already beating too fast …
… Because this is the last version of you that does not yet know how far you can be taken. This is the moment before everything changes …”
The words settled over Benson like a spell.
His jaw slackened. For a long second he could only stare, caught between genuine admiration for the precision of the speech and a rising, electric mixture of horror and dark excitement that left him almost light-headed.
Maxwell’s thumb pressed a single button on the remote.
Two sharp beams of light cut down from the ceiling, pooling in perfect circles on the concrete floor.
In the centre of each beam, a blue rope hung motionless. Suspended from the end of each rope was a compact white device that Benson could only describe as an electric brush … three rounded heads clustered together, bristling with soft silicone filaments.
Maxwell slipped the remote into his pocket and reached up. With two quiet clicks he unclipped the devices from their ropes and brought them down into his hands, one in each palm. The lights above continued to burn, illuminating the space around Benson’s bare feet like a private stage.
He turned the machines slowly, studying them with open appreciation.
“Now these,” he said, the smile that accompanied the words was far too pleased, “are wonderfully efficient.”
He pressed a small switch on the first device. Instantly the three heads began to spin, the dozens of tiny silicone fingers dissolving into a soft, continuous blur. A low mechanical hum filled the air.
“Each one has three independent rotating heads. Which means I’m not really holding two devices at all. I’m holding six little spinning brushes.”
His gaze drifted down to Benson’s soft, tightly clenched soles waiting in the stocks.
“And with feet as ticklish as yours, six is rather … Excessive …”
He switched on the second machine. Another quiet hum joined the first, the two tones overlapping into a steady, anticipatory drone.
Benson’s feet flipped, creating an X shape, his toes curling and staying flexed into a firm stretch, “I’m sorry,” he huffed, “Are we just pretending this is a completely normal thing to be doing?”
Maxwell continued as if Benson had not said a thing, “The clever part is coverage. One can work across your heel and arch while the other wanders around the ball of the opposite foot, beneath the toes, along the edges … Wherever seems to produce the most interesting reaction. And because all those little silicone tips are moving at once, there’s no single point of contact for you to brace against. Just dozens of tiny sensations arriving together, constantly.”
Benson looked into his stomach with wide eyes as he bit his lower lip, “You know, most people have hobbies, dude.”
Maxwell brought the humming devices closer, stopping only inches from Benson’s soles. The soft whir of the spinning heads filled the space between them, causing Benson’s knees to bend and his feet to twist away.
“And the best part? They don’t get tired,” Maxwell declared, “That’s important. Fingers eventually slow down. Hands cramp. People become sympathetic,” his smile widened, “Machines are terribly patient,” he glanced once more at the blurred, spinning filaments, “And these two have absolutely nowhere else to be.”
Maxwell stepped fully into the light, lowered both devices, and began - the moment all six spinning heads made contact, Benson’s body exploded into motion.
His entire frame lurched forward against the straps, then slammed backward, the chair rocking violently beneath him, “—OH DANG!—”, his feet twisted and spun, his ankles rolling in the stocks, toes splaying wide one second and scrunching into desperate fists the next.
Maxwell held steady exactly as he had promised.
One device remained low on Benson’s left foot, working his tender arch just above his heel in relentless circles. The other stayed high on the right, the spinning silicone filaments racing across the ball of his foot and straight into the sensitive bases of his toes.
Benson’s laughter tore out of him in sudden, unapologetic, uncontrollable and continuous shouts, “—Okay OH KAY, oh, GRAH-HAAAAAA oh, oh god-DAMN, HAAAHAHAAAA HAAHAAHAHA AHAAHAHAAAA NNN! Nnnnn, sh, sh, shitNN! NAAAHAAHAAAAA-OH--o-KAY! FUAAAHAHAHAAAAA, ahhhhahahahaha, ahahahaha, ahahahaha YO! Cra, tha, that’s crazy, man-AAHAHAHAHAAAA!—”, his teeth were bared, eyes stretched wide and unblinking, locked in a kind of stunned, ecstatic panic. Long curls whipped across his face as he threw his head in wild, uncoordinated directions - side to side, back against the headrest, forward until his biceps bulged. Between the breathless whoops and sharp cheers, broken sentences forced their way out: “Man, you’re TALENTED—!” and then a brutal discovery, “Holy shit— WOOP! My feet are, dang! TICKLISH as ff, ff, FUCK!—”
Every few seconds a clearer flicker of understanding cut through the laughter: the dawning, helpless realisation that his ticklish feet were completely at the mercy of those six spinning heads, that the session had only just begun, and that whatever came next was going to be far wilder than anything he had imagined when he lifted the whistle to his lips.
“I thought all the running around, the back flips in tight adidas trainers,” Maxwell noted, “I assumed there might be some callous, but no, Benson, your feet are exceptionally smooth, delicately soft …”
Benson’s bare feet fought in frantic, contradictory spasms - twisting away one second, then pushing into the spinning silicone the next, as though the very intensity of the sensation was magnetic. The leather cuffs around his wrists and elbows strained loudly; the wooden frame of the chair groaned, rattled, and creaked under the force of him. He was compact, but the muscle packed into that shorter frame was exceptional - every violent reaction transferred straight into the restraints until the whole apparatus shuddered as though it might come apart.
Maxwell planted the devices against each arch of Benson’s simultaneously - three spinning heads grinding into the left arch, three into the right - and held them steady.
Benson’s entire body convulsed, “—SWEET MOTHER OF GOD!—”, if the straps had not been there he would have launched himself straight at Maxwell, the chair forgotten. His face collapsed into a raw, stretched mask of anguish and wild hysteria, mouth open, eyes glassy and shining. A broken shout tore out of him, “—YUP— that’s the spot!—Oh MAN!—”
He folded in on himself, curling protectively even while his ticklish feet flapped with a mind of their own, scrunching into tight fists and then splaying wide again in rapid, helpless cycles. His smooth, pale soles flexed and stretched under the relentless spinning, “—You’re takin’ me OUT—” he gasped, the words bright with something close to joy, “—Oh BABY! This is AN, ANOTHER di, dimension, man!—”
The chair itself began to move. Every violent shake of Benson’s bound, powerful frame transferred into the wooden legs until the whole apparatus juddered and scraped several inches across the concrete. Maxwell felt the shift through the soles of his own shoes and only smiled wider.
“Having fun?” He asked over Benson’s ragged laughter, “I certainly am. It’s been a quiet little dream of mine for a while now - getting these particular feet under my hands. I’m so glad you blew that whistle …” he pressed a fraction harder into Benson’s arches, “… Look at them. So responsive. So wet already from how hard you’re fighting. These soles were made for this, weren’t they? So pretty. So desperately ticklish.”
Benson’s laughter cracked into pure, breathless cackling, “—I’m glad you’re enjoying this!—”, he screamed, “—But you gotta STOP and give me LIKE, a SECOND!—”
There was no pause. No mercy. No second to drag in a full breath. The six spinning heads kept working the same merciless circles, and the air in Benson’s lungs grew thinner with every tick of a clock that wasn’t there. Sweat had begun to gleam along the high arches and across the balls of his feet, making the silicone filaments slide and catch in new, slicker ways …
Then Maxwell shifted. Both devices slid upward in perfect unison, leaving the arches and locking onto Benson’s toes. The change was catastrophic …
Benson almost flipped the chair over, “—What the FUCK—”, the spinning heads swarmed over the sensitive pads, the sides, the vulnerable undersides of every toe, the thin webbing between them, “—LEAVE my toes OUTTA this!—”, Benson’s head slammed back against the chair as his toes splayed and clenched, his feet now basically twirling in an orbital spin, his ankles aching, his grin so tight all of his teeth were on show, “—YOU bahahah, ahahaha, ahahahahstard, dude!—”
Maxwell kept the spinning heads locked against Benson’s toes, letting the soft silicone filaments swarm and flutter over every part of them, every tip, every length, every base, “Tell me,” he said, calm above the chaos, “Just how ticklish are these little piggies?”
Benson tried to answer but the laughter had already claimed his throat, his lungs, his entire face. Words came out in shattered pieces between desperate, high-pitched bursts, “—What have they ever done to you!—”
Maxwell chuckled - no matter how hard Benson’s feet squirmed and writhed, his toes were always in claiming distance, “How does it feel right now?” He asked, “Go on, people like me, we like to hear …”
Benson threw himself forwards, he bit at nothing, like some caged lion, “—Mmm, makes me feel fucking dizzy, man!—” being so far forward revealed the layer of sweat produced on the back seat, something that aroused Maxwell more than he would admit at this point, “—Gettin’ tickled like this is, IS, IT’S FUCKING CRAZY!—”
Maxwell pressed a fraction deeper into both of Benson’s big toes, “And have you ever had your feet tickle tortured before?”
Benson’s voice cracked into pure, breathless hysteria, “Oh YEAH!—” he shrieked, “— all the DAHAHAH AHAHA AHAHAH AHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAMN time!—”, the answer was pure sarcastic nonsense and they both knew it. Maxwell’s smile widened.
Without warning he lifted one of the devices away from the left foot and brought it up between Benson’s parted thighs. He settled the still-spinning heads against the soft pouch of his balls, letting the whirring silicone work gently but relentlessly through the thin fabric of the briefs.
Benson’s body detonated, “—NO, NO WAIT, HOLD UP!—”, he bounced on his bubble butt and jolted in the chair as though electrocuted, hips jerking upward in frantic little hops while the remaining brush continued its merciless work across the toes of his right foot, “—YOU’RE GONNA MAKE ME PISS MY PANTS!—”, the dual assault - toes and balls at once - ripped a new, higher register of laughter out of him, wild and almost furious, the sound bouncing off the concrete walls.
Maxwell watched the reaction with quiet delight, then reached into his pocket with his free hand and pressed another button on the remote, causing two fresh beams of light to stab down from the ceiling …
Maxwell switched off the remaining brush with a soft click and set it carefully on the narrow ledge built into the base of the chair. The sudden absence of its whir left only Benson’s ragged breathing, residual giggling and the quiet creak of leather.
Two new devices hung waiting in the fresh beams of light - electric massagers with smooth, bulbous plastic heads, heavier and more substantial than the spinning brushes. Maxwell unclipped them both, one in each hand, and thumbed the switches.
A deeper, denser hum filled the room.
Benson was still half-laughing under his breath, chest rising and falling as he tried to drag air back into his lungs. He kept lifting his ass and flexing his thighs in an attempt to get away from the remaining vibrating brush between his legs …
“I’m, mnn waiting for you to mnnn slow down!” He managed, voice rough with leftover giggles.
Maxwell didn’t answer with words. He brought the heavy, vibrating heads down onto Benson’s soles at the same moment.
A bright, frantic roar of laughter tore out of Benson as the dense, thudding pulses sank into the soft, oversensitive flesh, “—Jesus CHRIST-AAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHA GOD AHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHA THAT TICKLES S, SSS, SSSO BAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAAHHA AHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHHAAHAD!—”, his eyes stayed locked wide open, soaked and shocked, never once closing, his feet thrashed, twisting, kicking, curling, while Maxwell simply drew the massagers up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down, in long, deliberate strokes, heel to toe, toe to heel, again and again, never lifting away, “—NOT EVEN a, a, FIVE second BREAK?—” Benson howled, the words almost lost inside the continuous, high, breathless noise pouring out of him …
Maxwell watched the soles with something close to obsession. The way they flexed and scrunched under the relentless vibration. The way every pass of the heavy heads produced a new, involuntary shriek. He was openly fixated - eyes dark, breathing steady, completely absorbed by the spectacle of how exquisitely, ruinously ticklish these particular feet had turned out to be.
“—HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! GRR, OH, HAHAHAHAAA! HNN, HNN, HAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHA!—” Benson’s laughter rocketed upward again, loud and bright, each burst crashing into the next before he had managed a proper breath, “—-HAHAH! AHAAA! AH-HA-HA-HA! HAHAHAHA! HAHA!—”, the pitch climbed sharply, cracking into something almost squeaky before dropping into a breathless, helpless wheeze, “—ha... haha... hhh... hahahaha!...” a tiny gulp of air, barely enough, then it exploded straight back out of him, “—AHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHA! HAAAAAHAHAHA!—”, his voice bounced between deep belly-laughs and ridiculous high notes, the occasional silent second appearing when there simply wasn’t enough air left to make a sound. His mouth remained open, shoulders shaking, before oxygen finally returned, “—Hhh... hhh... HAHAHAHA! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAH! HAH! HAHAHAHA!—”, another sharp inhale vanished almost immediately into a fresh peal, louder than the last, “—HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! …”
His nipples had drawn tight into hard, flushed peaks, the cool air of the room brushing them into even sharper awareness. Between his thighs the forgotten vibrating brush still nestled against him, and the relentless stimulation had pulled his cock into a heavy, unmistakable swell beneath the thin fabric of his briefs. The material stretched and strained with every involuntary roll of his hips, the outline clear and thickening, the tip already pressing damply against the cotton.
His eyes stayed locked on the massagers working his soles - bulging like cartoons, almost luminous with overload. He could not look away. He could no longer form a single coherent thought. Vision blurred at the edges. Language had abandoned him completely. There was only the screaming sensitivity of his own sensitive soles and the knowledge that his feet - his absurdly, ridiculously ticklish feet - had become the entire world.
Maxwell’s gaze dropped, lingering openly on the strained fabric of Benson’s briefs. The shape of his erection was now thicker, more rigid, the head already pushing insistently against the soft waistband of his underwear, “Well,” he murmured, “Look at that. I didn’t expect you to be getting turned on …” Maxwell simply adjusted. He brought both heavy, vibrating heads down onto the most sensitive territory of all - the soft, padded balls of the feet - and pressed in hard.
Benson’s face changed instantly. Not gradually. Not even with the warning flicker of a grin. One second Benson was braced for more of the same, the next his eyebrows shot towards his hairline and his eyes became enormous, his expression flashing with pure, bewildered betrayal.
“—HUH?! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! WHAT THE fu-HAHAHAHAHAHA! WHAT the FUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!—”
His whole body launched. He sprang upward like someone had fired a starting pistol underneath him, back snapping away, shoulders jumping, every muscle apparently receiving the same emergency telegram at once, “—HAHAHAHAHA! AH! AH! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Nnn, nnnn, NNN! HAAAAA!—”, the new spot had found an entirely different laugh hiding inside him. Higher. Wilder. Totally astonished. It spilled out in frantic little detonations, his voice ricocheting from booming laughter into startled squeals and back again, “—AH-HA! AH-HA! AHAHAHAHA! HEEEEEHAHAHAHA! WHAT?! HAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, his face was priceless, nose scrunched, cheeks bunched high, teeth flashing through an enormous disbelieving grin while his eyes kept darting down towards his feet as though they had personally withheld crucial information from him, “—THAT’S TICKLISH! HAHAHAHAHA! THAT’S TICKLISH!—”, Benson practically left the atmosphere, “—YAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAH! HAH! HAH! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! THAT’S TICKLISH as FUCK!—”, there was something almost manic about it now, not distressed, just completely blindsided. Every time he thought he'd found the rhythm, that unfamiliar little patch of sensitivity seemed to pull another bizarre note from him, “—HEH-HEH-HEH-HEH! AHAHAHAHA! HAAAAAHAHAHA! OH, THAT IS CRUEL! HAHAHAHAHA!—”, he stared down again, breathless and incredulous, wearing the expression of a man who had just discovered his own feet had been keeping secrets.
Something suddenly snapped through Benson’s laughter, “—HAHAHAHAHA! AHAHAHA! HAH... HAH... WAITWAITWAIT, wait, wait, wait, WAIT! WAIT!—”, his voice sharpened, the amusement briefly scorched away by a flash of furious urgency, “—I’M SERIOUS! LEMME BREATHE FOR A MINUTE!—”
Maxwell didn’t break rhythm. The massagers continued humming against the balls of Benson’s feet, causing him to thrash forwards, another great burst tearing out of him before he could finish drawing breath, “—AHAHAHAHAHA! FUCK! MAXWELL! HAHAHAHA! I SAID... HAH... ISAIDWAIT!—”, his anger lasted perhaps two seconds before sheer breathlessness dismantled it. The booming voice collapsed into thinner, ragged laughter, each sound fighting its way through whatever scraps of air he had left, “—hah... hahahaha! ... hhh... hah! ...” his face had gone from outrage to exhausted disbelief. Eyes squeezed shut, brow knotted, mouth hanging open between increasingly useless attempts to inhale. Then his voice dropped until it was barely there, the words trembling underneath little remnants of laughter, “—Oh, Maxwell ... please? Hah... haha... I, there’s nothing LEFT in, in the TANK, can’t breathe, man, I can’t ... hah ... I can’t do any more. I need ... just a minute!—”, still the quiet mechanical hum continued. Benson’s eyes opened. For a moment he simply stared at Maxwell, incredulous, then the sensation caught him again, “—AHAHAHAHAHA! MAXWELL!—”, the name came out almost accusatory, pitched halfway between a laugh and a broken whine. His composure had evaporated entirely now, leaving only breathless indignation, “—YOU ABSOLUTE... HAHAHAHA... FUCKING... HAHAHAHAHA!—”, he couldn't even find the noun, that somehow seemed to annoy him most of all, “—GRRRRRAGH!—”
There came a point where Benson stopped trying to organise the experience. Until then, some stubborn part of his brain had been attempting to stay ahead of it. Breathe here. Recover there. Brace when the massagers moved. Turn the laughter into words. Make a joke. Swear at Maxwell. Somehow remain Benson inside all that noise. But the sensation at the balls of his feet simply kept coming. His laughter began to exist independently of him. It no longer felt like something he was choosing to do in response. His body had taken possession of it. His stomach clenched with every enormous burst, ribs aching from the relentless contractions, cheeks burning from a grin he couldn't flatten. Every attempted breath seemed absurdly small compared with the amount of laughter waiting behind it.
And mentally, that was the strangest part. There was nothing left to solve. Maxwell wasn't responding to his protests. The machines weren't becoming less effective. Benson couldn't negotiate with the sensation or think his way around it. Every instinct that normally restored a little control had become useless. So eventually something inside him simply gave way.
Not surrender exactly. Acceptance. He stopped fighting the ridiculous grin. Stopped trying to swallow the noises that climbed unexpectedly into his upper register. Stopped being embarrassed when a shrill “HEHEHEHE!” appeared between the deeper belly laughs. If hysteria wanted him, fine. It could bloody well have him.
His head tipped back, “—AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHA-HAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAH-AHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHA-HAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAH-AHAHAHA!—”, and suddenly there was something almost exhilarating about allowing the reaction to become enormous, the laughter thundered out unchecked, his whole body participating now, stomach jumping, toes scrunching while his thoughts dissolved into flashes rather than sentences, “—AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHA-HAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAH-AHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAH-AHAHAHAHAHAHA! AGHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, there was no dignified version of Benson left to maintain. No clever response waiting in the wings. Just sensation arriving and laughter answering it, again and again and again and again and again, until cause and effect seemed welded together.
Maxwell had been right.
The Benson who had existed before blowing that whistle was gone. That Benson had known he was ticklish, of course. He had laughed about it. He had probably even thought he understood what the word meant. But knowing something about yourself and having it demonstrated to you without mercy were very different things. Now he knew. His feet weren't merely ticklish. They were spectacularly sensitive, and the balls of them were the great newsflash. His toes curled desperately, then sprang open again. His soles tightened. His legs jerked. His stomach contracted so violently with the laughter that eventually even laughing began to feel like physical work. Yet the massagers remained exactly where they were, cheerfully humming against the two places he now knew, with awful certainty, he could tolerate least.
Benson’s laughter abruptly hardened into a grunt.
Enough.
He planted himself as firmly as the restraints allowed and heaved, “—NNNGHHH—”, every muscle seemed to engage at once. His shoulders bunched, arms strained, thighs hardened and his face screwed into fierce concentration. For two glorious seconds he almost forgot about the sensations at his feet. There was only the chair beneath him and one gloriously stupid objective:
Tip the fucking thing over!
“—NGHHHH... COME ON!—”, the chair rocked, once, twice, then harder. Its legs hammered against the floor with a tremendous THUD. THUD. THUD, vibrations shuddering through the room as Benson threw everything he had into it.
Maxwell grinned as Benson gave one final enormous wrench, THUD! - and suddenly the massagers lifted away …
Silence. Benson froze. His chest pumped furiously. Sweat clung to his forehead. For a moment he remained tense, still prepared to wage personal war against the furniture. Then his eyes slowly found Maxwell.
He'd done it. Not knocked the chair over, admittedly. But he'd made Maxwell stop. A breathless grin crept across his face.
“Hah...”, another enormous gulp of air, “Hah... see that?”
Maxwell raised an eyebrow.
Benson settled back against the chair with the smug satisfaction of a young man who had just won an entirely different competition from the one everyone else was playing, “I’m a strong guy, huh?” He sneered, “I fucking scared you …” he giggled, sniggered, cackled, licked his lips, nostrils flaring, he couldn’t stop laughing, it was like dealing with the debris of a collapse …
Maxwell looked at him for a moment.
He let the silence stretch - just long enough for Benson to gather the ragged pieces of his breath, just long enough for the triumphant heat in his chest to settle into something close to self-satisfaction. The pop star still wore that breathless, cocky half-grin, chest rising and falling hard, curls stuck to his forehead, the afterglow of having forced a pause still bright in his eyes. For two full seconds Maxwell allowed him the illusion of control.
Then he took it back.
Without warning Maxwell stepped in, reached down, and hooked his fingers into the waistband of Benson’s briefs. In one sharp, deliberate motion he yanked the fabric down hard, dragging it past his hips and all the way to his knees.
Benson’s cock sprang free - thick, flushed, and fully hard - bobbing once in the open air before settling against his stomach, the head already glistening.
A sharp, startled gasp tore out of him, “—DAMN!—”, his eyes dropped, locking onto the sudden exposure, pupils widening as the cool air of the room kissed the sensitive skin …
“Oh, nothing scares me, Benson,” Maxwell said.
Maxwell’s thumb pressed another button on the remote.
A fresh spotlight cut down from the ceiling, illuminating two small metal devices suspended on black cords. They gleamed under the light - compact, precise, each one tipped with a pair of adjustable clamps and trailing a thin wire.
Benson, still dragging air into his lungs after the prolonged tickle assault on his feet, wriggled on the spot as he glanced down at his now exposed hard cock and big balls, his pants all twisted around his knees, growling with his eyes as if he could magically pull them back up by just looking at them - however, the arrival of new instruments caused him to freeze and snap his gaze upward, towards items he did not recognise …
“What the fuck are those!”
Maxwell unclipped the tools and stepped closer, “Nipple clamps,” he answered, “Electric ones. Are your nipples as ticklish as your feet, Benson?”
Benson’s reaction was borderline chaotic. A raw mixture of giggles and seething laughter burst out of him. His eyes stayed stretched wide, pupils tiny, as he tried to twist and shuffle sideways in the chair, the straps limiting every movement, his fists clenching or unclenching, “—This is some kinky shit, man!—”, the dread was real, sharp and electric, but it lived side-by-side with a wild, almost manic excitement. He was already too far gone, too deep inside the overload, to form any real resistance. Maxwell simply leaned in.
He fastened the first clamp onto Benson’s left nipple with calm focus. The metal teeth closed around the sensitive peak. Benson’s breath hitched hard, he even whined a little, then whimpered, as a second later the right clamp locked into place …
Maxwell’s voice remained even, almost instructional.
“Three settings. Moderate. Intense. Nuclear.”
He pressed a small button on the remote and both clamps came alive at once.
A low, insistent vibration hummed straight into the hypersensitive flesh of Benson’s nipples. A concentrated, ticklish buzz shot through his chest and forced a fresh explosion of energy out of him, “—Oh SHH, shit, oh SHIT, shit, oh, mmn ahaha, ahahah, ahahaha, AHAHA, AHAHAHA, what the, AHAHAHA! OH SHIT!—”, his entire torso began to writhe and thrash within the chair, his spine arching, head tossing as the dual points of stimulation overwhelmed every other thought.
While Benson was completely distracted by the vibrating clamps, Maxwell moved lower.
He took the thin cord dangling over the top of the stocks and began securing Benson’s toes one by one, drawing each one back and binding it tightly to the wooden stocks. The soft brush of the string between the toes, the gentle pressure as each digit was pulled into position, added a new layer of exquisite tickle torment.
Benson could not endure it. A high, broken shriek tore from his throat, “—NO!—”, he lunged forward as far as the restraints allowed, teeth snapping at empty air, eyes locked in horrified fascination on his own feet as they were methodically opened and locked in place, “—OH, so THAT’S the game now? You gotta tie my, my DAMN toes because you can’t handle me moving? That’s CHEATING, man!—”, every small tug of the string between his toes sent fresh spikes of ticklish agony racing up his legs, combining with the relentless vibration on his nipples until he was nothing but pure, dominated reaction - thrashing, laughing, shrieking, utterly at the mercy of both sensations at once, “—Okay, OKAY, counter-offer! You untie ONE toe. Just one! I’m being incredibly reasonable here!—”
Benson tried to move his feet. The impulse was pure reflex - a desperate, automatic attempt to curl, to twist, to pull away from the open exposure. His muscles fired hard. Tendons stood out sharply along the tops of his feet. The arches flexed with sudden force. Every toe tried to clench inward against the thin cords that held them.
Nothing gave.
The string binding each toe to the stocks held firm. His ankles remained locked inside the heavy wooden restraints. The splayed position was absolute. All he managed was a series of tiny, futile tremors - the barest quiver of skin and muscle that only made the vulnerability more obvious. The soles stayed fully presented, toes forced wide, every sensitive surface helplessly open and unable to close or retreat.
Benson’s head spun from side to side as he giggled and cackled non stop. He craned his neck as far down towards his chest as he possibly could, mouth open, desperately trying to reach the vibrating clamps with his lips or teeth - to blow them away, to bite them off, anything. His eyes rolled back until only the whites showed, the cords in his neck standing out sharp as the dual buzz on his nipples continued without mercy, “—I can’t take it, man!—”, the words came out broken, almost pleading. The fight drained from his voice. It was surrender, clear and complete - the first true admission of defeat, “—It tickles too much!—”
“Oh. That’s only the first setting,” Maxwell tilted his head, “Don’t you want your reward?” His hand closed around Benson’s cock - thick, rock-solid, and already slick at the tip - and stroked it once, slow and deliberate from base to head.
Benson’s entire body convulsed. A raw, startled cry ripped out of him as his hips tried to buck against the waist strap, “—This is so embarrassing!—”, the words tumbled out between frantic breaths. He had never expected to get hard like this, never imagined his body would betray him so completely under pure ticklish torment.
Maxwell released him and reached beneath the stocks, opening the narrow compartment built into the base of the chair. He drew out the two electric brushes - each one still fitted with its cluster of three small rotating heads - and a roll of strong black tape.
Benson’s eyes widened the moment he understood, “No, no, wait, you. YOU BEAST, what are you doing!—”
Maxwell ignored the rising panic. He pressed one brush firmly against the sole of Benson’s left foot, centering the three spinning heads over the ball of his sole, then began wrapping the tape tightly around foot and device, locking it in place. The second brush followed on the right foot, secured with the same ruthless efficiency until both soles were permanently fitted with the whirring instruments.
Benson’s voice rose into pure, desperate screaming, “—What the FUCK man! You gonna tickle me till I’m gonna die? I won’t SURVIVE this, man! Please don’t, what the ACTUAL fuck!—”, the toe ties squeaked as he tried to move his feet, but they were securely trapped.
Maxwell’s thumb found the switches on both taped brushes at the same time.
The six small heads spun to life against the soles of Benson’s feet - locked in place, impossible to escape. The soft silicone filaments whirred in relentless circles across the already oversensitive arches, the balls of the feet, the stretched pads of the bound toes.
A savage, unbroken howl ripped from the depths of his chest, “—ARRH-UUUHH-WHAAAAAAA!—”, not laughter anymore, but something far more feral, a continuous, high-voltage scream of pure sensory annihilation. His entire frame seized and bucked against the restraints with such violence that the heavy chair shuddered and scraped across the floor, “—NUH-AAGH-HUH-AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!—” Curls whipped through the air like dark ribbons as his head snapped backward, then forward, then side to side in wild, uncoordinated spasms, “-—OH GAAAAAAAHAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAD OH GAAAAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHD JESUS FUH-CKING CHRI-AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-AHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH-AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!—”
He could not believe the intensity. The sensation was so concentrated, so mercilessly precise, that coherent thought simply ceased to exist. There was only the white-hot, endless cascade of ticklish overload flooding upward from his feet, drowning every rational impulse, every scrap of control, every last fragment of the man he had been only minutes earlier.
“—YO FU-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHACK OH GAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH GAAAA, AHAHAHAHAHAH, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH, AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!—”
Each tiny shift of Benson’s feet dragged the spinning heads across new territory, and every change of surface produced a violent swing in the pitch and volume of his voice. When the filaments scoured the high, tender arches, the sound that tore out of him was a long, rising shriek - thin, almost piercing, the kind of cry that seemed to come from somewhere deeper than the throat, “—AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! WHAT THE FUCK! HAHAHAHAHAHA! MAXWELL! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! OH MY GOD! AHAHAHAHA! HAH! HAH! HAAAAHAHAHAHA! I CAN’T GET AWAY! HAHAHAHAHAHA! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! WHAT IS THIS?! HAHAHAHAHA! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS! AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, when the heads rolled onto the soft, padded balls of his feet the shriek collapsed into a lower, more guttural roar, raw and continuous, as though the sensation had punched straight through his belly, “—HUH-HUH-HUH-HUH-HAHAHAHAHAHA! OH -thiisbad-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FUCKING CHRIST, THIS IS SO MUCH WORSE! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!—”
He threw his head backwards, mouth wide open, face blazing with utter astonishment. He could not decide where to look. His eyes darted wildly - down to the bound, vibrating soles that were destroying him, up toward the ceiling as if salvation might be written there, sideways to Maxwell’s calm face, then back again in frantic, unfocused circles. Nowhere offered relief. The dual vibrations locked onto his nipples continued their own merciless work, a tight, buzzing torment that radiated outward across his chest and made every breath stutter. The two sensations fed each other: the relentless whir against his soles and the concentrated electric tickle on his nipples fused into a single, overwhelming current that left him thrashing, dripping, and completely unmoored.
Sweat streamed down the carved lines of his torso. His cock stood rigid and neglected, the head glistening with every fresh jolt. The laughter had become something else entirely - an endless, broken cascade of sound that rose and fell with the path of the brushes, epic in its helplessness, erotic in its total surrender.
While Benson was lost in that lower-body overload, Maxwell retrieved the two heavy electric massagers. He thumbed them on. A denser, more powerful hum filled the air.
He stepped in close to Benson’s upper body.
“Charm will be externally controlling the clamps from here,” he said calmly, almost conversationally. “She’ll decide when they move from moderate … To intense … To nuclear.”
He didn’t wait for a reply as he held up both vibrating massagers and narrowed his eyes towards Benson’s tied toes …
Maxwell lowered the first massager onto the tops of Benson’s left toes, pressing the bulbous head firmly against the stretched tendons and the thin skin between the bindings. The second massager settled across the right in the same motion. The dual vibration sank straight through bone and sinew, colliding with the underside assault already underway …
Benson’s torso jackknifed upward with such force that the leather wrist and elbow restraints sang under the strain, “—GET THEM OFF! GET THEM OFF!—”, the chair’s wooden legs screeched sideways across the concrete, sweat already sheeted his chest and the deep channels of his abdomen; it now flew from the ends of his curls in fine droplets as a sound erupted from him that was neither laugh nor scream but something rawer, “—YOU TOTAL FUH-AHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAH AHAHAHAHAKING, ABSOLU-AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-TE LUNATIC!—”, an unbroken, shuddering cascade that climbed and fractured and reformed without ever fully breaking, “—GRAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA-AHAHAHAHAHAHA-AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-AHAHAHAHAHAH-AHAHAHAHAHAHAH-AHAHAHAHAHAH!—”
Maxwell watched the violence of the reaction for only a few seconds before reaching beneath the chair for a broad leather strap. He drew it across Benson’s waist, cinched it tight against the bare skin just above the hips, and buckled it with a decisive click. The additional restraint forced Benson’s thrashing into a narrower channel; his hips could still buck and roll, but the whole apparatus no longer threatened to tip.
“Tell me what is moving through you right now,” Maxwell said, voice low and even above the mechanical chorus, “Not the noise. The sensation itself. Describe it for The Horned Devils watching …”
Benson’s answer arrived in shattered pieces between the convulsions that kept rolling through him, “—IT’S FUH, FUCKING EVERYWHERE AT, AT ONCE! I’M LOSING MY MIND, DUDE!—”, his head snapped side to side, curls plastered to his forehead and temples, “—YOU WIN! WHATEVER THIS IS, YOU FUCKING WIN!—”
Maxwell shifted both massagers upward in perfect unison, sliding them along the tops of Benson’s feet, then across the ankles, then higher still along the shins. The vibration travelled ahead of the contact, so that each new stretch of skin registered the approaching torment a fraction of a second before the heads arrived. Benson’s free laughter collapsed into a wetter, more broken register; tears had begun to gather at the outer corners of his eyes and now tracked freely down his temples into his hair.
“How severe is it?” Maxwell asked, never lifting the massagers, “On whatever scale still makes sense to you.”
“—WORSE THAN, ANY, ANYTHING I’VE EVER FELT!—”, Benson’s voice cracked into a high, sobbing giggle that immediately doubled back on itself, “—I think I might,” he suddenly spoke quietly, but quickly, gulping down a surge of dry air, “—ThinkI’mgonnapassout!—”
The massagers continued their deliberate climb. They crossed his knees, then his lower thighs, then they dragged along his erection, buzzing across his shaft, as Benson’s legs strained uselessly against the stocks; the toe cords creaked but held. Sweat darkened the white briefs still tangled around his knees and gleamed along the rigid length of his cock where it rested flapped and slapped against his stomach.
Maxwell paused the upward progress only long enough to speak again, “Do you want this to end?”
Benson’s answer came out as a fast, silent nod, his head bobbing as he bit his upper lip and scoured down at one vibrating nipple clamp, then the other - he could’ve swore the intensity had increased - had Charm switched them to intense?
“What are you thinking in the middle of this?” Maxwell asked. “What still has shape inside your head?”
Benson watched the massagers move closer to his chest, “—THAT I’M NEVER GONNA BE THE SAME AFTER THIS!—”, a fresh sob broke through the laughter, raw and real, “—I CAN’T MAKE THE SS, SOUND STOP COMIN’ OUTTA ME!—”
Maxwell moved the massagers again, sliding them up to Benson’s ribs. The denser heads found the spaces between the bones and pressed in, sending deep, thudding pulses straight into the intercostal nerves. Benson’s spine arched so hard the waist strap creaked. His free hands, still locked wide, clenched and unclenched; the muscles of his arms and shoulders stood out in sharp, trembling relief.
“—OH FUCK MAN COME ON COME ON MAN FUCK COME ON COMEOHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAA! AAAAAAAAAAGHHHHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!—”
Maxwell reached Benson’s armpits. He settled one massager into the soft, damp hollow on the left and the other into the right, pressing firmly so that the vibration sank deep into the sensitive folds and the dense hair. Benson’s entire upper body spun in the bondage. The sound that left him was no longer recognisable as laughter; it was a continuous, high-voltage discharge of pure sensory overload, broken only by the desperate need for air that never quite arrived.
“—WHY ARE THERE FUCKING TWO-HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAA! FUCK, MAXWELL, I’M GONNA PASS OUT! I’M SERIOUS, I CAN’T FUCKING BREATHE! AAAAAAAAAGHHHHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! STOP, STOP, I’M GONNA FUCKING BLACK OUT! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!—”
“—What would you offer,” Maxwell asked, leaning in so the words landed close, “to make it stop for even thirty seconds?”
Benson’s answer spilled out between the convulsions, every attempt at speech shattered by another helpless eruption of laughter, his voice ruined and thick with tears and saliva, “—ANYTHING—I’llstayafterthetour!—I’ll come back WHENEVER you FUCKING want—I’llletyou—HAHAHAHAHAHA!—fuck, fuck, I’ll-letyoudothisagain!—JUST—give me ONE clean mother fucking BREATH, breath—one fucking breath—PLEASE—Maxwell—I can’t—HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!—I can’t keep it together much longer!—”
Whatever concentration he had left began to disintegrate. His eyes could no longer seem to settle on anything. They found Maxwell, lost him, rolled towards the ceiling, squeezed shut, opened again without focus. His head lolled heavily to one side before snapping upright as another convulsion seized him, his body reacting a fraction before his exhausted mind could even understand why. He tried to suck in air and got laughter instead, “—HAHAHAHAHAHA! AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FUCK! MAXWELL! I’M SERIOUS! I CAN’T FUCKING THINK!—”, his words were becoming disconnected from one another now, thoughts arriving and vanishing before he could finish them. His shoulders shook violently. His stomach cramped. Even his attempts to protest seemed to have lost their destination, dissolving halfway into wild, breathless noise, “—TURN THE SHIT OFF! HAHAHAHAHA! GET THEM OFFA MY DAMN FEET! AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FUCK! FUCK! I’M LOSING IT! I CAN’T EVEN FUCKING SEE STRAIGHT!—”, he blinked hard through streaming eyes, trying desperately to drag the room back into focus, but everything seemed to swim and jump with him. For one strange second he appeared almost bewildered, as though he had forgotten what he had been trying to say, “==AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! MAXWELL! FUCKING HELL! I’M GONNA PASS OUT! I’M GONNA FUCKING BLACK OUT! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I CAN’T—I CAN’T—I CAN’T—”
Charm switched the nipple clamps into their final setting: nuclear.
The change struck Benson like a live current forced straight through the peaks of his chest. The moderate buzz that had already frayed every nerve now detonated into a savage, high-frequency assault that felt as though tiny electric teeth were chewing the flesh from the inside outward. It tickled so much that he actually began to break down …
“—AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FUCK! FUCK! MAXWELL! AAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, the laughter broke apart suddenly as Benson dragged in a ragged breath, but instead of recovering, his face crumpled, his chin trembled violently, a sob punched out of him, sharp and involuntary, followed by two desperate little gasps that barely seemed to reach his lungs, “—Huh!—huh!—please!—”, his eyes squeezed shut, emotion streamed down both cheeks, gathering along his jaw before dropping from his chin, he sniffed through flared nostrils as another sob consumed his throat, “—Please, man. PLEASE, I’m fucking-AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, his head snapped backwards and the laughter came roaring out again, huge and uncontrolled, his entire body shaking with it as Maxwell continued to press the massagers into Benson’s armpits, the brushes still buzzing at his toe tied soles, “—NO! NO! NO! HAHAHAHAHAHA! MAXWELL! PLEASE! AAAAAHAHAHAHA!—”, he tried to focus on Maxwell, but his drenched, unfocused eyes seemed to look straight through him - Benson blinked furiously, shook his head, swallowed, then seemed to forget what he was doing halfway through, “—I can’t! …”, his mouth twisted downward, for a second there was no laughter at all, only Benson openly crying, chest juddering as he fought to gather himself, “—I can’t fucking do this anymore!—”, his voice was tiny compared with the noise that had preceded it, then his whole body jolted as the electric massagers moved back down to his upper ribs, “—AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FUCK! NO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! PLEASE!—”, he sucked desperately through his teeth, tears still pouring down his face, “—I’M CRYING! FUCK, I’M ACTUALLY FUCKING CRYING! HAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, another sob folded him in on himself as far as his position allowed. His shoulders bounced helplessly. His breathing had lost any recognizable rhythm now: laugh, gasp, sob, laugh again, “—Huh… huh… huh… Maxwell! …” the massagers went back inside his armpits, “—AAAAHAHA-HAHAHAHAH-AHAHAHA! NO! FUCK OFF! FUCK OFF! AAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, his voice cracked on the name, “—MAXWELL, I’M BEGGING YOU!I’M FUCKING BEGGING YOU! HAHAHAHAHA! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEA—HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!—”, he couldn't even finish the word, “—I’ve got nothing … Le, lef, lef ...”
The six spinning heads taped to his soles never slowed. The filaments kept racing across the forced-open arches and the splayed, cord-bound toes, feeding the nuclear agony radiating from his nipples until the two sensations fused into a single, white-hot circuit that left no corner of him untouched. His cock thickened further under the fresh overload; the head flushed darker and began to weep in steady, involuntary pulses.
“There there,” Maxwell cooed, “Let’s address the elephant in the room, shall we?”
Maxwell watched the transformation with quiet fascination, then lifted both denser massagers from the armpits and brought them lower. He settled the heavy, vibrating heads against the shaft of Benson’s cock - one near the base, the other higher along the underside - and began to stroke them in long, deliberate passes from root to tip and back again. The dense thrum sank straight into the hypersensitive flesh, colliding with every other torment already raging through the bound body.
Benson’s eyes flew impossibly wide. His warning tore out of him in a shattered shriek: “—I’LL BLOW IF YOU DO THAT!—”
Maxwell’s voice remained calm above the mechanical storm, “Then blow …” he whispered his promise, “… And you’ll never see me again …”
The challenge landed like a second set of restraints. Benson’s entire frame rattled as his eyes burned down at the state of his arousal. He tried to gather the scattered fragments of his concentration, tried to push the orgasm forward while the nuclear clamps chewed at his nipples, while the six silicone heads continued their merciless circles across the soles, while the denser massagers stroked the length of him with relentless, vibrating focus. His hips bucked uselessly against the waist strap. The toe cords creaked as his feet strained in their splayed prison.
Maxwell kept the rhythm steady, the massagers never lifting away.
“Focus,” he murmured. “Feel how close it already is. Let the rest of it feed the pressure instead of fighting it.”
Benson’s answer dissolved into a wet, hysterical cascade of sound - laughter that broke into sobbing and then into laughter again, each breath shorter than the last. His cock jumped hard against the vibrating heads. The head flared and pulsed. He was balanced on the knife-edge now, the nuclear torment and the foot assault and the deliberate stroking all converging into one impossible demand: release while drowning.
His voice cracked open one final time, raw and pleading and already half-gone.
“—I can’t—HOLD IT—and I can’t—STOP it either!—”
Maxwell pressed a fraction harder, rolling the massagers along the underside in a single continuous motion that left no surface untouched.
“Then stop trying to hold anything,” Maxwell’s last words to Benson arrived like a key to a locked door, “Let it take you.”
Benson’s eyes almost imploded through his skull as his rock hard cock spewed out a giant gush of cum, his shaft fixing into a stiff line, his helm glistening as his head threw itself back and his erection shot out the best orgasm he had ever had in his life, whilst the tears on his cheeks refused to dry and his mind refused to remain conscious …
When Benson’s eyes opened, the concrete walls and the low industrial hum were gone.
He lay on the familiar hotel mattress, the sheets twisted around his bare legs, the air conditioner breathing its cool, recycled breath across his skin.
No leather cuffs. No wooden stocks. No thin cords locking his toes wide.
The only evidence that anything had happened at all was the faint dampness still cooling across the lower plane of his stomach and the heavy, spent ache that lingered between his hips.
He grunted as he noticed a large amount of cum staining his thighs and parts of the surrounding mattress.
He sat up slowly.
For a long moment he simply stared at the quiet room - the half-drawn curtains, the city light leaking in thin grey bars across the carpet, the ordinary shape of the bedside table.
The whistle was not there.
He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and stood, padding naked across the floor, searching the surface of the table, the floor beside it, the open mouth of his rucksack.
Nothing.
The small red metal object with its horned devil inscription had vanished as completely as the night itself.
A soft, disbelieving breath left him.
Maybe it had only been a dream.
The most vivid, ruinous, impossible dream he had ever had - yet still only a dream.
His body still carried the ghost of it, the residual tremor in his soles, the phantom buzz that seemed to live just beneath the skin of his chest, but the physical world around him offered no proof. His index finger and thumb tweaked nipples that still felt tender.
A sharp knock sounded at the door.
Before he could answer, the handle turned and his assistant stepped in, already speaking, already checking the time on his phone. Benson snatched the nearest pillow from the bed and crushed it against his hips, covering himself in one hurried motion.
The assistant froze mid-sentence. A flush rose instantly across his cheeks.
“Morning, Benson. Be uh, ready for today’s sound check in five …”
He backed out almost at once, eyes carefully averted, and closed the door with a soft, embarrassed click.
Benson stared at the closed door for a second longer, then called after him in a voice that sounded almost normal.
“Sure! Be there in a minute …”
Alone again, he let the pillow drop and stood in the middle of the quiet room, the last traces of the night still cooling on his skin.
Outside, the city continued its ordinary morning.
Somewhere beyond the glass and the traffic and the rising light, Charm walked with unhurried steps, the red whistle already tucked inside her purse, her path set toward the next name on a private list of wanted men …
